Twitter accuses the technology giant Microsoft of improper use of the social network data. The corresponding letter to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was sent by Elon Musk’s personal lawyer Alex Spiro, writes The New Your Times.
The letter indicated that in some cases Microsoft used more Twitter data than intended. Microsoft also shared Twitter data with government agencies without permission. The rules of the social network prohibit the use of its data by state institutions if the company is not informed about it in advance.
“Microsoft may have been in violation of multiple provisions of the agreement for an extended period of time,” Alex Spiro wrote in the letter.
The document did not indicate whether Twitter plans to file a lawsuit against Microsoft or seek financial compensation. However, it does require Microsoft to honor its agreement with Twitter’s developers and review the data usage of the eight apps.
The letter states that Twitter data was used by Xbox, the Bing search engine, and several other tools. According to Twitter, it has imposed restrictions on the use of its data. But Microsoft allegedly used the service’s data more than 780 million times and received more than 26 billion tweets in 2022 alone.
Microsoft said that they received the letter and will prepare answers to the questions in it.
“We look forward to continuing our long-term partnership with the company,” added company spokesman Frank Shaw.
Earlier it was also reported that Elon Musk threatened a lawsuit of Microsoft. According to Musk, Microsoft mined Twitter data to train its own AI-based programs. So now he will demand compensation.
