Apple and Google are working together to prevent lost item trackers like AirTag from being used to track people without their permission, reports CNBC.

The tech giants are aiming to develop a new industry standard that will alert victims about unwanted trackers on Android and iOS.

AirTag from Apple went on sale in 2021. It helps people find lost items by displaying their location on an iPhone app in virtually real-time. However, users have repeatedly reported that the $30 device can be used to stalk people. So Apple added a feature to the iPhone so owners could detect unfamiliar AirTags in their area.

According to Apple and Google, work on the joint project is planned to be completed by the end of 2023, and new functions will be introduced in future versions of iOS and Android. The changes will allow other trackers such as Samsung or Tile to create similar features as well.

It was previously reported that the new tracker from Tile will help find your cat. The novelty is a modified version of the Tile Sticker with a silicone mount and a range of approximately 75 meters. Tile for Cats batteries should last for three years. The device even has integration with Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant, so you can track your cat’s whereabouts with voice commands.
