After the launch of the new Peugeot 408 and electric versions of already known models, the French are ready to actively expand their line of passenger cars in Ukraine. The next step is the launch of the Peugeot 308 hatchback: the price, available versions for Ukraine, and technical specifications have already been announced. So…

New Peugeot 308: familiar design and unusual details

The Peugeot 308 car is made in the usual hatchback body, and I will even say more – the design of the new 308 is so similar to its predecessor! However, this is only at first glance. After all, using a similar EMP2 platform the new Peugeot 308 has changed significantly compared to its predecessor: it has a 55 mm longer wheelbase (now 2675 mm in total), an increased body length (now 4367 mm in total), and at the same time the car has become lower.

The change in dimensions affects the overall proportions of the Peugeot 308, and the new details only emphasize the dynamic and modern image. For example, notice the widened wheel arches or the solid black rear strip that hides the lights. However, the most important change is the new “face” of the new Peugeot 308: headlights with vertical “fangs”, and a wide radiator grille with a new logo. By the way, it was the Peugeot 308 that became the first bearer of the new logo.

The new 5-door hatchback Peugeot 308 only, at first glance, resembles its predecessor. But in general, the car has become completely different: stretching along the length and reducing the height gives the impression of a flatter and more stable body. One of the most important changes is the front part: a wide radiator grille, a new Peugeot logo, vertical “fangs” and LED headlights. By the way, the latter can be matrix. And “by the way” – a cool color Olivene Green.

A new modern embodiment of the already well-known Peugeot i-Cockpit interior

A similar story happened with the interior. The general concept of the Peugeot i-Cockpit remained unchanged: a miniature steering wheel, an instrument panel above it, and a powerful central console. However, all components of this set have changed.

For example, two 10-inch displays are now used in the Peugeot 308 interior – for the instrument panel and for controlling the multimedia system. The central console seems to be turned towards the driver, but it is also “open” for the convenience of the front passenger. The number of switches on the steering wheel has increased, and new buttons have been installed under the central display.

The general concept of the interior is already known, but the change of all key components gives a new design and a feeling of a modern car that seems to look into the future. However, they did not forget about practicality: thanks to the increase in the wheelbase, it is worth expecting an increase in the space behind; and in addition to the 384-liter trunk, there are also many niches for small things in the cabin – their total volume can reach 34 liters. By the way, did you notice the numerous Hybrid markings? Unfortunately, this story is not about us…

Turbodiesel only, but a Peugeot 308 SW station wagon is possible

In general, the Peugeot 308 model range includes 1.2-liter PureTech gasoline engines (110/130 hp) with manual and automatic, two versions of hybrids (180/225 hp) with the possibility of recharging, as well as a 1.5-liter 130-horsepower turbodiesel. This is only the last option currently announced for Ukraine, and immediately with an 8-speed automatic transmission; there is no choice of manual version. However, there are two configurations.

The Peugeot 308 ALLURE opens the model range: ABS and ESP systems, front and side airbags, side safety curtains, the “Safety” package (“cruise” and speed limiter, lane keeping, emergency automatic braking, road signs recognition), separate 2-zone “climate”, Keyless Access system, rear parking sensors, and rearview camera, heated front seats, digital 10-inch 2D instrument panel, touch 10-inch display, Eco LED headlights, high beam assistant, 16-inch alloy wheels. The price of Peugeot 308 1.5 BlueHDi 130 AT8 ALLURE is from UAH 1.047 million.

A step above is the Peugeot 308 GT, which adds: Full LED matrix headlights, an advanced package “Safety +” (for example, includes adaptive “cruise”, monitoring blind spots of mirrors), a 3D instrument panel, Alcantara interior trim with leather elements, steering wheel heating, front parking sensors, etc. The price of the Peugeot 308 1.5 BlueHDi 130 AT8 GT is from UAH 1.146 million.

Kind of a small range to choose from, right? But it can profitably be completed by the Peugeot 308 SW station wagon, the appearance of which is not ruled out by representatives of the importer. Moreover, the Peugeot 308 SW station wagon offers not only an increase in overall length (this has a positive effect on the volume of the trunk) but and an increase in the wheelbase (this was also the case with the predecessor) – and this promises additional space in the interior.

So: what awaits Peugeot 308 in Ukraine?

I think there is a certain volume of sales waiting for the car. However, even taking into account all the advantages – an increase in size, an attractive design, an interesting interior, and an economical diesel engine – sales of the Peugeot 308 are unlikely to catch up with the sales level of the Peugeot 2008 and Peugeot 3008 (because they are crossovers) and the potential level of the Peugeot 408 (because of emotions and design).

However, Peugeot 308 is bound to find some fans in Ukraine. Still, we have fans of classic European C-class models: not only hatchbacks but also station wagons. And the new Peugeot 308 will be a worthy candidate for them to purchase.
