There has long been speculation that ASUS made the top-of-the-line version more expensive to offer something competitive with the AMD Ryzen Z1-based Steam Deck. It turns out that this may not be the case.

The console with 16 GB of LPDDR5 memory and a 512 GB storage device starts at a price of $699. At this price, the ASUS console will be only $50 more expensive than the Steam Deck, which is available for $649 with the same memory and storage specifications. Valve’s portable console is also available for just $399 for the eMMC option, but ASUS doesn’t plan to use that type of storage.

The ROG Ally will also hit the market with 256GB of memory, which combined with an AMD Ryzen Z1 chip could bring the price down by $100-$150. The difference in performance between processors can be preliminarily estimated by data received directly from AMD.

The manufacturer will announce the availability, pre-order and pricing of ASUS ROG Ally on May 11 during a special event.
