BMW announced the appearance of Digital Key Plus on Pixel and Samsung smartphones. Previously, this type of key was only available on Apple devices.

After setting up the digital key, your smartphone will be able to automatically unlock the car when you approach it, or, conversely, lock it when you leave a certain distance. Also, your device will be able to start the BMW engine without having to take your smartphone out of your pocket. In addition, the car will welcome you with a small light show.

Digital Key Plus works using UWB technology. You can configure the digital key in the My BMW App. The key can be shared with friends or relatives – it can be used by up to five users. At most, the key works for about five hours after your smartphone is discharged.

The list of Android smartphones compatible with Digital Key Plus is as follows:

Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 6 Pro
Galaxy S23+, S23 Ultra, S22+, S22 Ultra, S21+, S21 Ultra, Z Fold4, Z Fold3, Note20 Ultra

I would like to note that BMW also has a regular version of Digital Key. In the case of this key, you need to hold your smartphone up to the car’s door handle to unlock it. Android devices received its support as early as 2021.
