Even if your goal is to lose weight by summer, the number on the scale isn’t always the best indicator of progress. That is why Withings has released new Body Smart smart scales that have a special “Eyes Closed” mode. Instead of displaying your actual weight, the device will display motivational messages as well as other information such as the number of steps taken, air quality or weather.

This approach may be more effective for some users. After all, you can immediately see your progress and the general trend. It will also be more useful for those who want to focus on other indicators, for example, increasing muscle mass. Or for those who want to store weight indicators only inside the application.

Body Smart measures weight with an accuracy of 50 grams. They are also able to monitor pulse and perform bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to determine body composition. The scale sends a small electrical signal through your feet to measure fat, visceral fat (the “bad” type of fat), muscle mass, and body water.

In addition, the device can measure the level of metabolism (BMR), and based on this indicator, determine your metabolic age. These features will be available to users in the May update, along with the pregnancy weight mode.

The new smart scales from Withings do not show the user their actual weight

Up to eight people can use Body Smart at the same time. The device automatically recognizes users. The device can synchronize data with Google Fit and Apple Health. Despite the presence of a high-resolution color display, three AAA batteries should be enough for 15 months of operation. The cost of Withings Body Smart is $99.95. Scales are offered in white and black.
