Martin Scorsese’s long-awaited film Killers of the Flower Moon has finally received a release date. For the first time, an Apple-produced film will be released in theaters before going online. The premiere of the film will take place in theaters on October 20, and closed screenings will begin two weeks earlier – on October 6. Apple has not yet specified when Apple TV+ subscribers will be able to see the movie.

Killers of the Flower Moon is an adaptation of David Grann’s 2017 nonfiction book of the same name. The movie will tell about the FBI’s investigation in the 1920s in the Osage Indian settlement, where an oil field was discovered, which enriched local residents who later died. Martin Scorsese acts not only as a director, but also as a co-writer of the film together with Eric Roth (Dune, Mank). The main roles were played by Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone.

In the spring of 2020, Scorsese signed a multi-year deal with Apple that covers both film and television projects. The exact details are unknown, but the budget of Killers of the Flower Moon is reported to be more than $180 million. The deal comes months after Scorsese’s The Irishman, which Scorsese made for Netflix, and garnered massive audiences despite failing to win any Oscars.
