Last year, Google during the presentation of smartphones Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro announced the appearance of the Photo Unblur function in the Google Photos service. It takes advantage of the Tensor G2 chipset and helps make blurry photos clearer. This feature is exclusive to Pixel smartphones.

It seems that the company is preparing a new Video Unblur feature for the new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro models. Colleagues from the 9to5google managed to forcibly enable it in the Google Photos application. Similar to Photo Unblur, the feature should make pre-recorded videos clearer. So far, Video Unblur doesn’t make a noticeable difference, but it’s clearly in the early stages of development.

Google Photos also managed to find new effects that can be applied to videos. They will be separated in the Overlays tab when editing the video. But, as with Video Unblur, these effects don’t work in the app yet.

A total of 14 new effects will be available, including VHS and Super 8, which should create the illusion of using classic video formats.
