8 years later, the remake of the legendary System Shock by Nightdive Studios almost reached the release. The game is finally coming to PC on May 30, 2023. And you’re saying that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was developed for too long!
The PC remake of System Shock is now available for pre-order on Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store, and include a free copy of the upcoming System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition (pre-order only). The newly released demo version of the game can be found in the respective stores. The cost of System Shock 2023 for Ukraine is UAH 999.
Console editions of System Shock will be released on PlayStation 4/5 and Xbox One / Xbox Series S|X at a later date.
The development of the remake of System Shock, created in 1994 by the famous Warren Spector, began back in 2015. In 2016, a successful Kickstarter campaign was held, which raised $1.35 million. But then the game fell into production hell. First, there was an engine change from Unity to Unreal Engine 4, then the game was frozen for a while, then there was a scandal with Chris Avellone, then the developers blamed the delay on COVID-19.
