At the beginning of the year, a month before the release of the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania movie, a 63-page Google Docs transcription of the film’s dialogue was shared by user MSSmods on the Marvel Studios Spoilers page at Reddit.
Now Disney wants to know who is responsible and is trying to get Reddit and Google to identify the person or group of people responsible.
As first reported by TorrentFreak, MVL Film Finance (a Disney subsidiary created to support Marvel Studios production) has filed two Digital Millennium Copyright Act subpoena applications designed to compel Reddit and Google to identify who was behind the leak.
Since MSSmods is the account used by the moderators of r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, if Reddit grants the request, the company will have to name more than one person.
What’s more, Disney has asked Google and Reddit to share any “identifying information” they have about MSSmods, including names, phone numbers and IP addresses, as well as details about any user who may have been involved in posting, editing or uploading this leak.
Reddit has not said whether it intends to comply with the court order:
“Reddit is committed to protecting our users’ privacy. We have rigorous processes in place to assess legal requests and object when appropriate,” a Reddit spokesperson said, pointing to company policy regarding legal requests.
It is unclear what Disney plans to do with the source of the leak, if at all. The dialogues posted by MSSmods have been translated into Portuguese, and some of them are not in chronological order.
