Rheinmetall is in talks on building a tank factory in Ukraine

The German defense contractor Rheinmetall is in talks with the government about the possible construction of a tank factory in Ukraine. This is reported by Reuters citing the interview of the CEO of the company, Armin Papperger, to the Rheinische Post.

“A Rheinmetall plant can be set up in Ukraine for around 200 million euros ($212.64 million), which can produce up to 400 Panther KF51 a year,” says Papperger.

We will remind, earlier it was reported that the government of Ukraine is negotiating with Rheinmetall regarding the purchase of promising Panther KF51 tanks. The practice of localization of weapons production is very common. Our Western neighbors conclude almost all weapons supply contracts with localization of production in Poland.

“Talks with the Ukrainian government are promising and I hope for a decision in the next two months,” CEO of Rheinmetall added.

While Western allies are sending Ukraine enough weapons to defend itself, the Ukrainians currently do not have enough equipment to fully retake their territory, Papperger said. According to him, Ukraine needs from 600 to 800 tanks, and to reach this number, the construction of new tanks must be started quickly.

We will remind you that earlier it was announced about the possible construction of a scientific and production Baykar center in Ukraine.
