Jokes about the fact that one of the most popular Internet browsers is fastidious in the use of RAM and mercilessly treats the energy saving of laptop batteries have probably been seen by everyone who uses the Internet. And many users could still notice from time to time that these memes do not come out of nowhere. But with the update, Google Chrome received improvements that are aimed at correcting this situation.

The latest version of the browser now has a Performance item in the settings, which includes Memory Saver and Energy Saver functions.

The first one automatically frees a part of RAM that was allocated for tabs that have not been active for some time. Such tabs will not disappear anywhere and will be automatically reloaded as soon as the user returns to them. If necessary, such a function can be turned off in general, or set the rule to “stay” in the RAM for individual tabs.

According to Google, such functionality will help to use 30% less memory resources than before.

With the second feature, “Chrome saves battery power by limiting background activity and visual effects.” That is, in this way, the browser will reduce background activity and some effects, such as the smoothness of scrolling pages and the number of frames when playing videos. In addition, there will be a separate indicator switch in the toolbar that will allow you to turn off power saving for better performance.

At the same time, in the settings there are options to automatically turn on Energy Saver if the battery charge level is less than 20%, or if the laptop works without a connected power supply unit.

New features of Google Chrome are enabled by default and should be available soon for browser users on Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS operating systems.
