The history of the Mazda company has several interesting pages related to rotary engines: light sports coupes of the 1960s, victories at Le Mans, the legendary RX-7 sports car. But since the 2010s, when the last versions of the Mazda RX-8 were released, the history of the rotary engine has turned into just “history”: lots of talk about the future, but no production implementation.

But soon everything may change! After all, the Mazda company is preparing a rotary version of the Mazda MX-30 model.

In general, it seems that the Mazda MX-30 SUV has become one big experiment for the Japanese. Unusual body with additional rear doors (Mazda RX-8 had them). The first serial electric car from Mazda. A strange design that does not really match the current Mazda model line. And now there is also a rotary version. Moreover, the developers promise that the rotary engine will not drive the wheels directly, but will be used as a “range extender” in combination with an electric motor and a battery – a kind of Range Extender.

But how will it actually be and what will be the technical specifications of the new product? We will find out soon – the debut of the rotary version of the Mazda MX-30 is scheduled for January 13.
