According to Politico, which refers to an official of the presidential administration, the US intends to impose additional sanctions on Iran due to the supply of weapons to Russia. These are likely economic sanctions and possibly some export controls aimed at third parties that help Tehran and Moscow.

“Are we going to do more about Iranian military sales to Russia? Absolutely, yes,” the official said on condition of anonymity. “For anybody in the world who is either selling material to Iran that could be used for [unmanned aerial vehicles] or ballistic missiles, or who is involved in flights between Iran and Russia: Do your due diligence, because we are absolutely going to sanction anybody who’s helping Iranians help Russians kill Ukrainians.”

The anonymous warning came after rumors emerged that Iran plans to transfer additional attack drones and ballistic missiles to Russia. This was posted a few days ago by Washington Post with reference to representatives of the US security sector.

These are primarily Iranian short-range tactical ballistic missiles Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar, which are capable of hitting targets at ranges of 300 and 700 kilometers, respectively. The problem is that we still have nothing to shoot down ballistic targets.

In addition to missiles, Iran is apparently going to supply Russia with additional Mohajer-6 multipurpose UAVs and even more kamikaze drones Shahed 136. At the same time, Iranian officials once again deny the supply of weapons to Russian troops.

Yesterday, October 17, 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine published a statement, which called on Iran to stop supplying weapons to the Russian Federation.

“We call on Tehran to immediately stop supplying Russia with any weapons. Otherwise, Iran and its leadership will bear the strictest responsibility, including within the framework of international legal proceedings regarding Russia’s crimes against Ukraine.”
