Microsoft has finally admitted that the Xbox One sold significantly worse than the PS4

The fact that Microsoft’s previous console was inferior to its main competitor was probably assumed by everyone – but to what extent, it was not known. The fact is that Microsoft stopped reporting Xbox One sales at the beginning of the 2016 fiscal year, instead focusing on the number of subscribers to the Xbox Live service.

But now, thanks to the attentiveness of the GameLuster resource, the approximate sales volume of the console has finally become known. According to their information, a high-profile case is currently underway in Brazil, in which Microsoft is trying to defend its acquisition of Activision Blizzard from a lawsuit by the national competition regulator. And the last court papers from Microsoft confirm that for the entire time of the Xbox One, less than half of the circulation of the PlayStation 4 has been sold.

Sony currently also does not disclose information about PS4 sold, so we have to rely on the last known number as of March — 117.2 million consoles. Thus, the circulation of Xbox One, according to the information of Microsoft itself, did not exceed 58.4 million. It is interesting that the analytical company Ampere Analysis in 2020 estimated the number of Xbox One sold at approximately 51 million consoles — it turns out that its analytics was quite accurate.

By the way, at the same time, Ampere Analysis predicted that by the end of 2024, 67.3 million PS5 and 44.3 million Xbox Series X|S will be sold – the difference is also significant and still not in favor of Microsoft, but not so big, as in the previous generation.
