Netflix will finance Johnny Depp’s film about the French King Louis XV

Johnny Depp recovers from the court with Amber Heard, and is already involved in a new project. Bloomberg reports that the license agreement with Netflix will partially cover the payment of bills for the upcoming film in which the actor will play one of the main roles.

According to the report, Netflix will pay part of the bills for the film La Favorite by the French actress and director Maïwenn Le Besco.The film will tell the story of King Louis XV of France (Johnny Depp) and Madame du Barry (Le Besco), the king’s favorite, whose affair with Louis led to his execution during the French Revolution.

Netflix will license the film in France and help finance the production. La Favorite is due to be released in French cinemas in 2023 and on Netflix France 15 months later.

Earlier this year, Netflix struck a deal with French film guilds ARP, BLIC and BLOC, committing to invest at least 4% of its annual revenue in France in the production of French and European feature films including La Favorite.
