New times bring new heroes. This is what happened this time as well: the McMurtry Speirling electric car became the new record holder of the Goodwood Festival of Speed highway (just over 1.6 km). Haven’t heard of such a model? It is a compact single-seater electric car from the British company McMurtry: only 3.5 m long but 1.7 m wide. It weighs less than 1,000 kg and can accelerate to 100 km/h in less than two seconds. And the manufacturer promises a range of one full battery charge of more than 482 km.

However, the most important thing is not “all this”, but something a little different – simply put, a fan to create a “ground effect”. After almost half a century of oblivion, this idea is back on racing cars! After all, it is worth recalling that due to the “ground effect” once Formula-1 cars were literally glued to the track. The idea reached the maximum level of implementation in the form of a separate fan behind the car, which, in the end, was very quickly banned from use. However, now we see the return of the idea of actively creating a “ground effect” that allows the McMurtry Speirling electric car to achieve 3g overload (according to the developers). And this is a direct way to high speed on the turns, and, as a result, exceptional record results. Here’s how it happened this time…

So, back to the record: the McMurtry Speirling electric car covered the test distance in just 39.08 seconds. Thus, it surpassed the previous achievement by about 1 second. By the way, it was also installed by electric car. That’s right: new times bring new heroes.
