GitHub Copilot is an artificial intelligence assistant that offers code in the editor and has become publicly available to all developers. The price for use is $10 per month or $100 per year. Verified students and developers of popular open source projects will be able to work with it for free. This is reported by Thomas Dohmke, CEO of GitHub.

“We specifically designed GitHub Copilot as an editor extension to make sure nothing gets in the way of what you’re doing. GitHub Copilot distills the collective knowledge of the world’s developers into an editor extension that suggests code in real time, to help you stay focused on what matters most: building great software,” said a statement.

When the developer prints code or comments, the assistant suggests the next line of code. However, it is not limited to a single word or string, but can offer complete methods, template code, whole modular tests, and even complex algorithms.

With GitHub Copilot you can:

receive tips based on artificial intelligence during programming, choose different options, accept, reject or edit;
work in a user-friendly environment, integrating the assistant into popular editors such as Neovim, JetBrains IDEs, Visual Studio, and Visual Studio Code as extensions;
can confidently program in unfamiliar territory, as the assistant offers syntax and code in dozens of languages.

The wizard is now available for individual developers. It will be offered to companies later this year. To try GitHub Copilot, you can use free trial for 60 days.
