The fact that Sony plans to screen some of its own gaming franchises, became known last month, but no details were available at the time. The first information about the most mysterious announcement – the movie adaptation of Gran Turismo – has just appeared.

“Mysterious” because it is difficult to imagine a series (as it was then considered) for a game that has no plot, full-fledged campaign and even characters, and all the gameplay is built around endless racing and the gradual acquisition of more cars.

But finally the situation cleared up. Deadline Resource informs that the movie Gran Turismo (yes, it will not be a series, but a movie) will tell the story of a teenager who was a fan of the game and participated in the official championships held by the game’s developer, Polyphony Digital. The fact is that the winners of these championships get the opportunity to take part in real races on real cars, and the hero of the film eventually becomes a professional racer.

The plot of the film is based on real events, the screenwriter is Jason Hall, and the director is Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium, Chappie), and the film is shot by a film company Columbia Pictures. And even the planned release date of Gran Turismo on the big screens is already known. It should take place on August 11, 2023.
