The Cabinet of Ministers supported the bill on legalization of medical cannabis in Ukraine according to a message on the official website of the Ministry of Health.

The new law will regulate the circulation of cannabis for medical, industrial, scientific and technical activities. It should expand access to cannabis to treat a number of diseases. In particular, cancer and post-traumatic stress disorder resulting from the war.

According to the head of the Ministry of Health Viktor Liashko, the law creates the basis for the full cycle of production of cannabis-based drugs in Ukraine. At the same time, the document will strictly control the cultivation, production and sale of drugs.

“Medical cannabis is not competitor to drugs, and measures to regulate their circulation are completely different. Medical cannabis contains cannabidiol, which has no pronounced psychoactive effect, so it is not interesting for recreational use,” says Victor Liashko.

Medical cannabis is used for post-traumatic stress disorder, neurological diseases, diseases of the digestive tract and chronic pain. It helps to overcome anxiety and sleep disorders, as well as relieves symptoms of cancer and is used in palliative care.
