Electronic Arts has announced a new mobile game in the RPG genre, which is based on the Tolkien trilogy The Lord of the Rings. EA Capital Games is directly responsible for creating The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth. The game will be free for users, but in-game purchases will be included.

In Heroes of Middle-earth you will meet familiar characters from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. EA notes that players will live “significant events in Tolkien’s world and go to war against the great evil of Middle-earth.” They promise an “addictive story”, a collection system and turn-based battles.

“We are incredibly excited to work with The Saul Zaentz Company and Middle-earth Enterprises on the next generation of mobile role-playing games,” said Malachi Boyle, Mobile RPG’s Vice President for Electronic Arts. “The team is full of fans Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit and every day he gathers his passion and extraordinary talents to give the players an authentic experience with their favorite characters.”

It will be the first Lord of the Rings universe game for EA since The Lord of the Rings: Conquest 2009. The company plans to launch limited regional beta testing in the summer. By the way, 2022 should be a busy year for LOTR fans. Daedalic’s The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is expected later this year, as well as the series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power from Amazon (premiere September 2).
