Stellantis, which now includes, among others, FIAT, has announced plans to modernize its plant in Serbia to further produce compact electric vehicles there. The total investment should be about 190 million euros, which will significantly improve the plant and launch the production of the latest EV-models from 2024.

It is now known that one of the first electric cars to be produced at the renovated plant will be the successor to the popular in Europe and fairly inexpensive family minivan FIAT 500L. We remind: this car is designed in the style of the popular retro car FIAT 500, but it is able to offer a more spacious and comfortable interior for the whole family.

The current FIAT 500L minivan is based on FIAT’s own platform. However, given the preparation of the replacement with EV and the close cooperation within Stellantis, one should expect the use of an existing electric platform designed for compact models. Examples are numerous Peugeot, Citroen, Opel EVs, which have a battery capacity of 50 kWh, and an electric motor with a capacity of 100 kW or 136 hp.

In addition, in the future we can expect the emergence of other electric vehicles created on identical technology. So in a few years we can get a whole range of inexpensive electric cars that will be produced near Ukraine. Will this lead to the next stage of the electric boom in our country? Let’s see. However, we can say with confidence that this will definitely reduce the dependence on traditional fuels and oil.
