Avatar 2 has finally been officially named. The most anticipated sequel, which will be released on December 16, is called Avatar: The Way of Water. This was announced by Disney studio during Cinema Con.

This raises fans’ hopes that the long-delayed film will indeed be released at the end of the year. Another proof of this may be the first teaser trailer, which the company promises to show together with Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film is scheduled to premiere on May 6.

Disney has also released a synopsis, which, however, has few details about the upcoming sequel to Avatar:

“Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”

The phrase “begins to tell” may not be accidental, as Avatar: The Way of the Water is not the only film planned in this cycle. Avatar 3, 4 and 5 are also in the works. They are planned to be released one by one at intervals of two years. There is reason to hope that they will not disappoint – at least, James Cameron promised that sequels will have an unforgettable effect.
