US President Joe Biden announced the new package of security assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $800 million, which should meet the critical needs of the country to repel a new offensive by Russian troops. This package is the eighth provision of equipment from the US Department of Defense for Ukraine since August 2021.

New US assistance will include:

  • 72 155-mm howitzers and 144,000 artillery shells;
  • 72 tactical vehicles for towing 155-mm howitzers;
  • More than 121 Phoenix Ghost tactical drones;
  • Field equipment and spare parts.

New assistance package with 18 155-mm howitzers, announced on April 13, provides enough artillery systems to equip five divisions. The United States has provided more than $4 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the Biden administration came to power, including about $3.4 billion since the unprovoked Russian invasion began on February 24.

The US government also notes that it continues to work with its allies and partners to identify and provide additional opportunities for Ukraine. As Joe Biden said in his speech, the United States will continue to use all available tools to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.
