Package contents
Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI comes in a large and rather heavy box, which is not surprising given the package.
The box contains the robot vacuum cleaner itself, the Clean Station Steam+ automatic cleaning station, a wet cleaning nozzle, microfiber wet cleaning pads, wet cleaning nozzle holders, a side brush, a pre-motor filter, a dust bag, and the necessary documentation.
Construction and start of use
The Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI itself has a quite familiar round shape and a set of functional elements. There’s a side brush, a LiDAR sensor on top to build a cleaning map, a hinged lid with a dust cup and water tank, and a pair of touch buttons to start cleaning or send the robot vacuum to charge. You will hardly ever use these touch buttons, as the robot is controlled from your smartphone and according to the automatic settings of its algorithms.
If you take a closer look, you will see that in addition to the usual basic set of sensors for colliding with obstacles on the sides, Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI has additional cameras. Two 3D cameras are used to recognize objects, obstacles, and their sizes. Additionally, there is another camera that is designed to transmit images to a smartphone in real time.
The vast majority of more affordable robotic vacuum cleaners with a wet cleaning function simply have an additional microfiber cloth that is moistened during cleaning and simply wipes the floor. The Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI uses two round nozzles that rotate at 170 rpm and are capable of removing difficult dirt.
The rest of the functional elements on the bottom of the robot vacuum cleaner are quite standard: two drive wheels, a roller, several height difference sensors that prevent it from falling, and side and main brushes. The latter has a rather interesting design, but we’ll talk about it in the section on cleaning itself.
The Clean Station Steam+ self-cleaning station is one of the most important elements of the Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI: it not only charges the robot vacuum cleaner, but also automatically cleans the dust cup, fills it with clean water before cleaning, cleans and disinfects the microfiber nozzles, and collects dirty water after the cleaning procedure.
The Automatic Cleaning Station has a 2.5 liter dust bag. It also has 2 tanks – one for clean water with a capacity of 4 liters and the other for dirty water with a capacity of 3.6 liters. This allows you to fully automate cleaning for a certain period of time without having to clean the dust cup, wet cleaning nozzles and fill up the water every time.
Unlike conventional robotic vacuum cleaners, Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI doesn’t just drive up to the charging base and touch the corresponding contacts. Instead, it drives onto a special platform that has a place for automatic cleaning of microfiber nozzles.
To get started, you need to install the Clean Station in the desired location, plug it into a power outlet, and set the robot vacuum cleaner to charge. Samsung claims that the optimal distance from the Clean Station to furniture or other objects is 0.5 m on the sides and 1 m in front. If a power outlet is directly behind the Clean Station, you can wind the excess cable into the slot on the back.
The robot vacuum cleaner has two touch buttons. The first one starts basic cleaning in automatic mode. The second sends it to charge. But to access all the functions, of course, you need to install the Samsung SmartThings app on your smartphone. The app usually automatically detects Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI and prompts you to add it. If not, you can add it manually or scan the QR code on the robot vacuum cleaner itself.
Main features and functions of Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI
Samsung is actively adding machine learning and AI features to the vast majority of its modern devices. Of course, this also applies to Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI. Thanks to 3D sensors and LiDAR, the robotic vacuum cleaner can recognize people, pets, and various objects, including small items, furniture, determine the type of floor, and not only make a cleaning map, but also classify different rooms by type. For example, if it recognizes a refrigerator or a dishwasher, it understands that it is in the kitchen. In the settings, you can set up imaginary walls, select areas that do not need to be cleaned, and choose different types of cleaning for different areas.
All recognized objects are marked on the map. From electronics to wires, slippers, toys, or pet waste products. In the SmartThings app, you can customize the size of objects that the robot vacuum cleaner will pick up. Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI is able to recognize the depth of the carpet for better cleaning and raise the wet cleaning nozzles. It can also identify particularly dirty areas that need more attention.
The Jet Live+ Monitoring and SmartThings Pet Care home monitoring features are worth mentioning. The Jet Bot Combo AI camera can stream live video to the SmartThings app and locate your pet, and thanks to the built-in microphones, the robot vacuum cleaner can hear barking. In Patrol mode, the robot vacuum cleaner automatically monitors your home and pet and alerts you if it detects a person.
The Clean Station Steam+ self-cleaning station not only automatically cleans the robot vacuum cleaner’s dust cup and fills it with water before cleaning. The most interesting feature is the washing and sterilization of wet cleaning pads. The station first washes them with a mixture of water and steam at a temperature of 50-60°, then disinfects them with steam at 100° and dries them with hot air at 55°. This way, the robot vacuum cleaner won’t spread dirt and germs around the house with every wet cleaning.
Cleaning modes
The Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI has four cleaning modes: dry, wet, dry + wet, and dry and wet in sequence. You can also adjust the intensity yourself. However, the robot vacuum cleaner itself is able to determine the degree of contamination of the room and choose the right cleaning intensity thanks to machine learning and AI.
Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI independently paves the optimal cleaning route. But it is possible to choose the movement pattern yourself: a perimeter passage and cleaning along a zigzag trajectory, the opposite option with a perimeter passage at the end, or just a quick cleaning without a perimeter passage.
The robot vacuum cleaner has a high suction power of 6000 Pa, which makes it easy to collect all dry debris. A side brush is used to sweep small particles from under walls and corners. Next, the main turbo brush works near the suction opening. It has a slightly unusual shape with a narrowing in the middle. It collects hair and wool, after which it is crushed with special blades to prevent it from winding up on the brush and is sucked up along with the rest of the dirt.
Wet cleaning uses dual nozzles that rotate at 170 rpm to deeply clean stains. They remove both everyday dirt and the toughest stains. The robot vacuum automatically recognizes stains on the floor. Once the main cleaning is complete, the Jet Bot Combo AI travels to the cleaning station, where the wet cleaning nozzles are treated with steam and water, and re-clean the particularly dirty area.
You can control the Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI using the SmartThings app. In addition to tracking the robot vacuum cleaner’s position and cleaning status, you can pause or stop it. After each cleaning, a detailed report is generated, showing you all the details and history of the cleaning.
Battery life and maintenance
A full charge of the Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI battery provides up to 3 hours of battery life. Of course, this time may vary depending on the mode, intensity, and many other factors. But in any case, it’s enough time to completely clean an apartment of almost any size. It takes up to 300 minutes to fully charge. However, if the battery is almost depleted during cleaning, the robot vacuum cleaner will return to the Clean Station Steam+ on its own. And it will continue cleaning not after a full charge, but when the charge level is sufficient to complete the cleaning.
Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI is designed in such a way that the user needs to spend as little time as possible on its maintenance. Thanks to the self-cleaning and automatic water filling functions, all you really need to do is pour clean water into the tank and you can forget about any manipulations with the robot vacuum cleaner for a couple of weeks, except for starting the cleaning itself. Although it can be automated using a schedule.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Samsung Jet Bot Combo AI is completely maintenance-free. In addition to changing the dry waste bag from time to time, draining the dirty water and adding clean water to the Clean Station Steam+, there are a few other less obvious things that need to be done. First, you’ll need to clean the filters in both the robot vacuum and the self-cleaning station. Secondly, some dirt or hair may still remain on the drive wheels, roller, side and main brushes. Of course, we are not talking about frequent cleaning, but it is not necessary.
