The Southern Defense Forces released a video showing ZRAD fighters of the 39th Separate Coastal Defense Brigade using the Mistral air defense system to destroy Shahed drones.
"Ukrainian defenders demonstrate the high effectiveness of the Mistral air defense system at the front. Despite the fact that these complexes are designed to destroy aircraft (planes and helicopters), they have also shown themselves excellently in shooting down Russian Shahed attack drones," the report says.
The Southern Defense Forces do not specify the exact date when the video was shot. But they note that during one duty, the fighters managed to destroy three enemy kamikaze drones. According to information on page 39 of the separate coastal defense brigade, the event occurred in the Kherson region.
The Mistral anti-aircraft missile system is a French development. It was adopted by the French Army in 1987. In 2000, the Mistral 2 was developed, a modernized model.
The Mistral is available in a MANPADS variant and for use on vehicle, ship and helicopter launch platforms. It has a range of up to 6 km.
By the way, recently, a Ukrainian delegation during a visit to Denmark conducted demonstration exercises on countering strike drones. Ukrainian specialists launched a Sting interceptor drone into the air, which successfully destroyed a Danish Banshee drone that was simulating a threat.
