President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law that provides for an increase in spending on security and defense by UAH 412 billion, according to a document card on the Verkhovna Rada website.

The relevant changes were supported by the people's deputies today, July 31. A total of 332 people's deputies voted for the draft law No. 13573 " On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2025" regarding the financial provision of the security and defense sector ."

The Ministry of Defense, for its part, noted that UAH 216 billion of the indicated amount is money for the purchase and production of weapons, military equipment and drones. Another UAH 115 billion is for the timely and stable provision of the Defense Forces. And the rest is for other urgent needs of the army.

Recall that UAH 449 billion was allocated from the general fund of the state budget for the needs of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the first four months of 2025. In January-April of this year, more than UAH 365 billion from the general fund of the state budget was spent on salaries to military personnel, and almost UAH 84 billion was spent on the purchase of equipment, weapons, ammunition, and food for the Defense Forces.

According to estimates by the independent international institute SIPRI, Ukraine's military spending in 2024 increased by 2.9% compared to 2023 and reached $64.7 billion. This is equivalent to 43% of Russia's military spending and 54% of the total spending of the Ukrainian government.
