The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that the volume of humanitarian demining in Ukraine has increased by almost 50% over the past year. As of early June, 108 mine action operators have been certified and are working to clear territories of explosives.

According to the head of the mine action department, Oleg Shuvarsky, demining quality control has been intensified, and five National Standards in this area are in operation. Since the beginning of 2025, inspections have been carried out on 241 sites with a total area of 32 km².

Currently, about 139,000 km² of Ukrainian territory is potentially contaminated with flammable objects, of which 14,000 km² are water areas. However, due to hostilities, work is only possible on 31,000 km².

It should be noted that most of the potentially contaminated areas will not actually require a difficult demining process and can be put into operation after an initial non-technical survey.

Today, according to estimates by the Ministry of Economy, Ukraine uses about 300 large machines of this category for demining large areas, which is the largest fleet in the world. However, even this number is still not enough to clear the entire mined area.

Large foreign demining machines are quite expensive. In addition, they are produced by a small number of manufacturers. Therefore, Ukraine is already mastering its own production of such equipment and localizing Western ones at domestic factories.

The first heavy remote demining complex "GART 5100" manufactured by the Ukrainian engineering company XTI Engineering recently passed the state certification procedure. As stated by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, this machine is designed to neutralize various types of mines and other explosive objects by detonating and destroying them with hammers of a chain unit or a milling cutter.
