The head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMMA), Timur Tkachenko, announced the launch of a "full-fledged" system for intercepting enemy drones flying over Kyiv. According to him, UAH 260 million will be allocated for the implementation of the initiative.
" On the instructions of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, we are launching a full-fledged system for intercepting enemy drones flying over Kyiv. The capital is attracting more funds for the implementation of the large-scale "Clean Sky" project, which involves protecting airspace with the help of domestic interceptor drones, " he wrote on the X platform.
The head of the KMVA also explained that the money will be used not just to purchase equipment, but to create an effective response system.
"We are deploying an operator training center - this is a specialized structure where specialists in controlling interceptor drones will be trained; We are forming additional mobile units that will be on duty in the capital and on the outskirts of the city; We are working in close coordination with the General Staff, the Air Force, and the Defense Forces to achieve maximum synergy with the air defense system," explained Timur Tkachenko.
He also said that in just a few months of its pilot launch, the "Clear Sky" project in the Kyiv region has already proven its effectiveness - almost 550 enemy drones have been intercepted.
At the same time, the head of the KMVA added that work is ongoing to attract extrabudgetary funds.
The head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, separately stated that the experimental project "Clear Sky" appeared in the Kyiv region four months ago. It employs 12 crews. The official claims that they have "almost 650 interceptions of enemy drones."
Recall that the Unmanned Systems Forces are actively scaling up this direction. The approach is considered cost-effective, as the cost of an air defense missile can reach $1 million, while an interceptor drone can cost about $5 thousand.
The development of this technology to intercept Russian UAVs is especially important at a time when the aggressor seeks to increase drone production.
According to the GUR, in the Russian Federation, the production of "Shaheeds" and imitators of this UAV reached about 170 units per day as of May 2025. By the end of this year, the figure is planned to be increased to 190 drones per day.
