Modern warfare is less and less like traditional infantry battles, it is turning into a confrontation between drones and long-range strike systems. This was stated by the chief sergeant of the unmanned systems battalion of the 24th separate mechanized brigade, Yuriy "Lys", on the air of the "United News" telethon, ArmiyaInform writes.

"If a year ago the gray zone was approximately 500 meters to 2 kilometers, now it has expanded to 5-6 kilometers, and in some directions even up to 7 kilometers," he noted.

According to the sergeant major, there are approximately 50 different UAVs in the air every minute, both reconnaissance and strike. This applies to both Ukrainian and enemy drones.

Yuriy "Lys" noted that the Russians are also actively building their own unmanned capabilities and partially copying the tactics of the Ukrainian military in shooting down UAVs and laying mines.

"Now war is more like a long-range, remote combat rather than an infantry or armored vehicle battle. Distances have increased, kill zones have increased," the chief sergeant emphasized.

He also said that the enemy is increasingly using motorcycles, ATVs, and light equipment to break through zones controlled by Ukrainian drones.

"Indeed, the Russians are trying to disperse their forces as much as possible, resorting to infantry assaults or assaults using motorcycles, ATVs, and light equipment. The terrain of the Chasovy Yar area itself is not very favorable for the use of heavy equipment," explained Yuri "Lys."

He added that this is a big problem for Ukrainian drone units, as they are mobile groups that need to be constantly tracked and against which a large number of strike drones must be used. However, Ukrainian tactics of reconnaissance, fire damage and mining of roads are yielding results. Despite the new Russian tactics, the situation remains under control of the Ukrainian military.

"We create many unpleasant surprises for the enemy with the help of drones. At the same time, we strive to increase strike forces in order to more effectively deter enemy offensive actions, especially now, when the weather is favorable for the enemy's rapid movement," the chief sergeant summarized.
