German concern Rheinmetall is expanding its presence in Romania, deploying a new production network in the country. It will focus on the production of Lynx infantry fighting vehicles, ammunition and powder charges. This is stated in a press release from the manufacturer.

The network involves both the concern's own enterprises and Romanian companies. Speaking of partnerships, the concern names local companies Uzina Automecanica Moreni, Interactive Software SRL and MarcTel-SIT.

Rheinmetall Automecanica plans to establish local production of Lynx infantry fighting vehicles, with minimal dependence on external suppliers.

Meanwhile, Rheinmetall Munitions Romania will produce medium-caliber ammunition for infantry fighting vehicles and air defense systems, while Victoria Explosive Powder will produce powder charges. Rheinmetall will provide technology and expertise to launch production at Victoria.

A training center, the Rheinmetall Excellence Center, is also being established in Romania. It will be equipped with modern simulators and training programs to provide local specialists with the knowledge to maintain and develop defense technologies, including Lynx.

Rheinmetall says the initiative will create hundreds of jobs in production, engineering and technical services. The company sees the project as a contribution to strengthening the Romanian defense industry and developing local supply chains.

It was also recently reported that Rheinmetall has developed a new ROSY VL smoke grenade launcher system capable of protecting equipment from attack drones.
