The new Ukrainian ground robotic complex (GRC) Droid, designed for reconnaissance and fire support, has passed testing. The corresponding video was published by Army TV.
The new product is equipped with a large-caliber American Browning machine gun and 420 rounds of ammunition, and the Droid system has additionally received software with artificial intelligence for targeting and correction.
It is noted that fighters from the special unit of the GUR of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine "Revansh" came to test the robotic complex. The commander of the NRC unit with the call sign Wolverine stated that their unit already uses ground drones for various tasks, so they are interested in the Droid complex.
"We use drones as logistics, we use them as engineering robots. We have several combat drones, a little smaller in caliber, a little different in layout. But now we are trying to use them widely, as the war is moving forward," explained Wolverine.
The specifications of the NRC are as follows:
- Range: 22 km;
- Maximum speed: 7 km/h (on hard surfaces and rough terrain);
- There is a ballistic calculator for precise targeting;
- Combat module for the Browning M2 machine gun and its modifications;
- Power system: 400-round box + 20 rounds in the tape = 420 rounds in total;
- Three cameras: narrow, wide and thermal;
- Horizontal and vertical guidance using linear actuators;
- Artificial intelligence is needed to recognize targets – both manpower and equipment. It assists the operator in tracking targets, moving and striking.
At the same time, before starting work, it is necessary to carry out a calibration - first, aligning the sighting module with the machine gun barrel, then calibrating at a distance of 100 meters.
It is not yet known when the new NRC will enter service. Recall that earlier in Iiskiv, the Nemesis drone was shown in action, which carries up to 12 kg of explosives and is controlled via the Internet.
