UAH 449 billion allocated from the state budget for military needs since the beginning of 2025 – Shmyhal
UAH 449 billion was allocated from the general fund of the state budget for the needs of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the first four months of 2025. These figures are based on the statement of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
According to the head of the Ukrainian government, in January-April of this year, more than UAH 365 billion from the general fund of the state budget was spent on salaries for military personnel, and almost UAH 84 billion was spent on the purchase of equipment, weapons, ammunition, and food for the Defense Forces.
Denys Shmyhal noted that in general, more than 60% of all expenditures from the general fund of the state budget were spent on security and defense.
By the way, according to estimates by the independent international institute SIPRI, Ukraine's military spending in 2024 increased by 2.9% compared to 2023 and reached $64.7 billion. This is equivalent to 43% of Russia's military spending and 54% of the total spending of the Ukrainian government.
The report says that last year Ukraine received at least $60 billion in military financial assistance, mainly from the United States, but also from Germany and other European countries.
The institute's experts added that SIPRI includes military aid in the donor country's, not the recipient country's, estimate of spending. This means that this $60 billion is not included in the total for our country.
If they were included, Ukraine's military spending last year would have been $125 billion – making it the fourth-largest spender in the world.
