China is using its own artificial intelligence platform DeepSeek to design new combat aircraft, the South China Morning Post reported, citing Wang Yongqing, chief designer of the Shenyang Institute of Aviation Design, a division of the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China.
"The technology has already shown promising potential for application, providing new ideas and approaches for future aerospace research and development," Wang noted.
He also added that the team is conducting deep research on large-scale language models to solve "complicated problems based on practical needs."
"This is an important step … and points to the future direction of aerospace research," he emphasized.
Wang has worked at the institute for over 40 years and has participated in the creation of many fighter jets, including the multi-role J-15 Flying Shark for the Navy and the J-35.
According to Wang, artificial intelligence is also being used to automate routine checks so that researchers can focus on more important tasks.
