The German company Hensoldt is increasing production capacity to increase the output of TRML-4D radars. This is reported by Hartpunkt. The company plans to increase production to 30 units per year to meet rapidly growing demand.
For example, TRML-4D is used in Ukraine, as such radars are a key element of the IRIS-T SLM air defense system, which was developed by Diehl BGT Defence GmbH & Ko KG.
At the same time, Hensoldt CEO Oliver Dörre cited Germany as an example. According to him, 40 to 60 such radars are needed to fully cover the country.
In addition, Dörre sees significant demand for TRML-4D in Europe as part of the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI), which Germany initiated in 2022.
As for the technical aspects of TRML-4D, the system is based on the latest AESA (Active Phased Array) radar technology and can detect and track approximately 1,500 targets within a radius of up to 250 km. The list includes cruise and ballistic missiles, drones and aircraft. And in the future, it is announced that it will even be able to detect artillery and mortar shells.
In June, the manufacturer announced at the Paris Air Show that it was integrating artificial intelligence-based target recognition capabilities into the TRML-4D.
