The Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Directorate of Defense has shown archival footage of the department's special forces first using FPV drones in the open sea. This happened in the fall of 2024, the Directorate said in a statement.
"During a raid off the coast of Crimea on September 11, 2024, fighters of the Raven Group unit as part of the Timur Special Unit of the Military District of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine first used FPV drones from boats in the open sea," the report said.
The released video by the GUR shows exclusive footage of the reconnaissance team's combat work.
The department added that thanks to this component of the operation, the GUR soldiers were able to suppress enemy fire on the Petro Godovanets gas production platform in the Black Sea. The occupiers suffered losses in personnel and equipment.
Recall that in May 2025, the GUR showed unmanned boats with kamikaze drones for operations in the Black Sea. Footage of these platforms is shown in Artem Shevchenko's documentary "Sea Battle. The Era of Drones."
