YouTube is preparing a major redesign of its TV app that will make it more similar to Netflix. The new design will display paid content from various streaming services on the homepage and will launch "in the next few months," The Verge reports.

YouTube currently lets you watch movies and TV shows from Paramount Plus, Max, and Crunchyroll as part of its Primetime Channels feature. Similar to Amazon Prime Video, you can choose and subscribe to third-party services through YouTube, with the platform taking a cut of the revenue.

However, this content is only accessible through the Movies & TV tab in the YouTube app, making it difficult for users to find. But now the company is looking to move this section to the app's homepage. This will also allow content creators to structure their videos into seasons.

YouTube senior director of product management explained that the idea behind this change is to blur the line between content on the platform and content from other services. "So that users can simply choose and watch what interests them, regardless of whether it's a show from the channel's prime time or a show from a creator."

The company has made several notable changes to the design of its TV app over the past year, and last month announced that TVs have become the "primary device" people use to watch YouTube.
