Xiaomi recently introduced a new flagship series of smartphones Xiaomi 17, which is positioned as a competitor to the iPhone 17 line. Sales have started only in China, while there has been no information about global sales of these smartphones. However, as NotebookCheck writes, insider information has already appeared, according to which only one model from the series will be officially available on the international market.
As Polish insider Kasper Skrzypek told X, only the base model of the Xiaomi 17 will receive a global version. According to him, this is confirmed by the analysis of the HyperOS 3 code, which mentions an international modification of only this model. However, the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are absent from the code, which indicates that the company may not have plans to release them outside of China.
The new Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max models feature an additional display on the back, which sets them apart from most modern smartphones. This display can be used as a viewfinder for selfies, a music or widget control panel, and to display notifications. In addition, the company has introduced an official Game Boy-style case with physical buttons that turns these smartphones into a portable game console.
Xiaomi's flagship series is traditionally divided into models that go international and those that remain exclusive to China. For example, the Mi 10 Ultra and Xiaomi 12S Ultra did not receive a global release, while the Mi 11 Ultra, Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, and Xiaomi 15 Ultra were officially sold outside of China.
The situation is similar in the Pro line: the Mi 11 Pro, Xiaomi 14 Pro, and Xiaomi 15 Pro remained only for the domestic market, while the Mi 10 Pro, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and Xiaomi 13 Pro were available internationally.
There has never been a situation where only the manufacturer's basic flagship model was available globally. If the Polish insider's data is confirmed, this will be the first such decision by Xiaomi.
