Elon Musk's xAI company has introduced a new memory feature for Grok. The chatbot will be able to store information about users' preferences and individual facts about them to take this into account when formulating responses.
This brings xAI closer to its main competitors OpenAI and Google. ChatGPT has long had a similar memory feature, which was recently improved so that it can reference a user's entire chat history.
xAI claims that memories in Grok are "transparent," so users will be able to review the facts the AI remembers about them and delete them if necessary.
Grok's new memory feature is now available in beta on Grok.com, as well as in the iOS and Android mobile apps worldwide, except for the EU and UK. xAI also said that the memory feature will also be coming to X itself soon. Users can turn it off in the settings menu on the "Data Control" page, and deleting saved data is currently only possible on the web version.
