Windows 11 has finally overtaken Windows 10 in terms of users. According to Stat Counter, as of July 2025, it will have a 50.88% share of the Windows market, while Windows 10's share has dropped to 46.2%. This is reported by Windows Central.
Windows 11 was released in 2021 and had a slow start, reaching less than 10% share by 2022. However, after Microsoft's active campaign to end support for Windows 10, Windows 11's popularity gradually grew: 18% in 2023, 36% in 2024, and rapid growth in 2025.
Despite criticism of Windows 11 for its stricter hardware requirements and the requirement for a Microsoft account, the operating system continues to grow in popularity. In particular, Windows 11 recently became the most popular among gamers on the Steam platform.
Microsoft expects 2025 to be a key year for PC upgrades among users, so major changes to Windows 11 are being delayed: the fall version 25H2 update will be based on the same platform as 24H2 to avoid compatibility issues.
