One month before end of support: Windows 10 has started to gain ground on Windows 11 again

In July 2025, Windows 11 surpassed Windows 10 in popularity for the first time, nearly four years after its release, but that trend didn't last long. According to StatCounter, Microsoft's old operating system is regaining its position, even though its support ends in a month.

As of the end of July, Windows 11's share had jumped to 53.5%, while Windows 10 had fallen 10% to 42.8%. What's more, Microsoft's latest OS has also overtaken its predecessor in terms of the share of Steam players using it, with 11 now accounting for 60.39% of users, while Windows 10 only accounts for 35.08%.

As of the end of August, Windows 11’s share had fallen by 4%, while Windows 10 had grown by 2.7% to 45.53%. While this is not an official statistic, StatCounter collects data from over 1.5 million websites and 5.3 billion page views worldwide, which provides a wealth of information.

The reasons for this drop in Windows 11's share remain unclear, especially considering that the PC market is growing actively in 2025.
