Warner Bros. has announced that the release date of Mortal Kombat 2 has been moved from October 2025 to May 15, 2026. The announcement was made on the film's official X social media account, which states that "the tournament needs a new time and place worthy of its spectacle."
The decision came as a surprise to fans, who actively expressed their dissatisfaction under the post about the postponement of the premiere.
Warner Bros. officially presented the first full trailer for the film "Mortal Kombat 2" on July 17 of this year. Overall, the trailer was received quite positively by the audience. It has gained over 11 million views on the official YouTube channel of the film company alone.
Deadline suggests that the postponement is due to the studio's desire to take advantage of the spring season, which is traditionally more profitable for films with bright visual effects. It is also possible that Warner Bros. plans to refine certain elements of the film after previews or complete work on the visual effects that play a key role in the film.
The company has not yet provided official comments on the reasons for the release date change.
