Valve plans to release a new $1,200 VR headset by the end of 2025, along with several of its own games for it, according to insider Gabe Follower.

According to the report, the new wireless headset will be standalone and will not require a connection to a PC. It currently has the working name Deckard. The $1,200 price tag is the lowest the company has managed to set, but even at that price the headset will still be sold at a loss.

The high price is due to Valve's desire to provide players with the best possible virtual reality experience. In addition to the headset itself, the kit will include controllers, which are currently known as Roy and have already appeared on SteamVR. The company has also prepared several of its own VR games or demos for Deckard.

The headset will run SteamOS, the same operating system used on the Steam Deck portable console, but adapted for virtual reality. One of the key features of the Deckard will be the ability to play regular non-VR games that are already available on the Steam Deck.

An insider reports that Valve may hold the first presentations of the headset behind closed doors soon. When the official announcement will take place is still unknown.

We remind you that the company already has a VR headset called Valve Index, which costs $749 with controllers. It was released in 2019.
