The beta version of the Google Play Services app 25.32.31 has revealed signs of an updated backup feature for Android that will allow you to automatically save various downloaded files to Google Drive, Android Authority reports.

Currently, the backup system only covers photos, videos, device settings, message history, and app data, but does not include files downloaded via the Chrome browser or other sources.

According to an analysis of the APK file, Google is planning to add an option that will allow users to save the contents of their Downloads folder to Google Drive. This innovation should provide more control over which files are backed up. However, the code mentions the phrase "backing up documents," which probably indicates a limitation - the feature may not cover all file types.

It is currently unknown whether this will only involve copying the standard "Downloads" folder, or whether other file storage locations on the device will also be available.

The feature isn't even active in the beta version of Google Play Services yet, so its full capabilities remain unknown. Google hasn't officially commented on these changes yet, but their appearance in the app's code suggests that it's preparing for a possible implementation.
