In February 2025, there were reports that the US State Department could purchase a Cybertruck for $400 million, but that did not happen. Now it has become known that the US Air Force has shown interest in Tesla's electric pickup trucks, writes Electrek.

The Air Force is reportedly planning to purchase two Cybertrucks not for operational use, but rather to use the armored pickup trucks, as Elon Musk claims, as targets for missile tests.

According to the documents, the US Air Force Test Center wants to purchase 33 target vehicles, including two Cybertrucks, for delivery to the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.

In addition to Tesla pickups, the list also includes various sedans, SUVs, Bongo trucks, and pickups from other automakers. However, the requirements are only for the two Cybertrucks - there are no requirements for the other brands.

The vehicles are planned to be used as targets for precision weapons. As for the Cybertruck, their inclusion on the list is explained by the fact that these vehicles can potentially be used by the enemy, since, according to observations, they do not receive the usual level of damage in a strong collision.

"Tests should reflect real-world situations. The purpose of training is to prepare units for operations by simulating scenarios that are as close to real-world situations as possible," the document states.
