Universal accidentally revealed the title of the next Mario cartoon – Super Mario World
Universal accidentally revealed the likely title of the sequel to the cartoon The Super Mario Bros. Movie — Super Mario World. This name appeared in an NBCUniversal press release about the upcoming premieres on the Peacock streaming service, but it was later removed, writes The Verge.
The initial press release listed Super Mario World as one of the films that would first be released in theaters and then become exclusives to Peacock. This was later removed, along with information about new Shrek and Minions movies.
The name Super Mario World seems logical, as it was in the SNES game of the same name in 1990 that Yoshi , who was shown in the cartoon's post-credits scene, debuted. This game became the most successful on the platform, selling over 20 million copies.
The sequel to Super Mario Bros. was officially announced in March 2024. It is scheduled for release on April 3, 2026, and directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenik are once again working on the project. After the billion-dollar box office of the first part, Nintendo continues to develop its franchises on the big screen - the next project will be The Legend of Zelda, which is expected to premiere in March 2027.
