Valve has released the stable version of SteamOS 3.7.8 with support for Lenovo Legion Go, ASUS ROG Ally, and new features for Steam Deck.
The update adds official support for third-party consoles for the first time, and also offers a ready-made image for installing SteamOS. The company has provided detailed instructions, although it warns that support for unconfirmed devices is not yet final.
SteamOS 3.7.8 also brings notable improvements to the Steam Deck itself. You can now use the Bluetooth headset microphone in desktop mode (via HFP/HSP profiles), and the LCD model now supports powering on via a Bluetooth controller — a feature previously only available on the OLED version.
Additionally, there is the ability to set a battery limit of 80% for protection when always connected to the network, limit the frame rate on displays with VRR and control the CPU frequency on some AMD processors. The Arch Linux base, Mesa graphics drivers and Plasma desktop manager have also been updated.
Valve also confirmed that it is working with partners on new devices labeled Powered by SteamOS, so the platform's ecosystem could expand significantly. At the same time, the community is expecting the announcement of a new Valve Deckard VR headset and an updated Steam Controller.
By the way, Valve recently announced that the number of games on Steam with Steam Deck support has exceeded 19,000. Of these, 6,216 have Verified status, and another 12,841 have Playable status.
