Spotify launches 'managed accounts' for kids to avoid spoiling parental recommendations
After a successful pilot launch in 2024, Spotify officially introduced the "managed accounts" feature, but for now in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France and the Netherlands. It is available to Premium Family subscribers and allows you to create separate profiles for children under 13 with their own recommendations and playlists.
The new accounts allow you to restrict playback of certain artists, hide videos (like Canvas), and filter out explicit content. They also prevent children from using interactive features like messaging.
A separate profile will help avoid situations where kids' TikTok hits influence Discover Weekly or Wrapped at the end of the year. While Spotify already has an Exclude from your Taste Profile option, "managed accounts" offer a simpler solution for families.
They still have the standard Premium features, including Daylist and Discover Weekly, so it's an intermediate option between the Spotify Kids app and a full adult account.
To create a "managed account", the family plan owner must go to their account settings in the Spotify app, select Add a Member → Add a listener aged under 13 and follow the instructions.
