Team Cherry released Hollow Knight: Silksong on September 4, 2025, and within a few hours the game reached number one in the Steam rankings.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is the sequel to the 2017 indie hit that sold over 15 million copies. Silksong is available on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Incidentally, it's been on Game Pass for PC and Xbox users since day one.
Silksong took seven years to develop. In August, studio co-founder Ari Gibson explained that the long production time was due to the small team's desire to meet fan expectations. He emphasized that the game was always in development, but its scale required much more time.
The game's release even caused disruptions on Steam: some players reported technical problems with downloading and payment, but this did not prevent the game from quickly reaching the top sales positions in the world. The original game became one of the most successful indie games of the last decade, so the release of the sequel was one of the most anticipated releases in the gaming community.
Silksong tells a new story in the Hollow Knight universe and offers players the role of Hornet — a character well known to fans of the original. The developers promise an expanded set of abilities, new regions to explore and even more dynamic boss battles. Team Cherry has confirmed that it will continue to support Silksong after launch: patches are expected to fix technical issues and, probably, content updates, as was the case with the first part.
