Signal for PC is getting a new "Screen Security" setting that will prevent your computer from taking screenshots of chats. In Windows 11, this option will be enabled by default to protect users' private messages from Recall.

Recall, which Microsoft first announced in May 2020, has raised significant privacy and security concerns, as the feature essentially takes screenshots of everything you do on your computer every few seconds. Signal notes that this puts its messenger users in particular at risk.

The company's blog post says that while Microsoft has made some changes to the feature over the past year, Recall can still pose a risk to any content in privacy-focused apps like Signal, prompting the developers to add an extra layer of protection to the PC app.

If users try to take a screenshot of Signal with screen security enabled, nothing will appear. The developers note that according to official Microsoft documentation, setting the correct digital rights management (DRM) flag will ensure that the content does not appear in Recall. This is exactly what the Windows 11 version of Signal will do.

We remind you that in April 2025, Microsoft finally began implementing the Recall feature on Copilot+ computers. After the initial announcement, security experts and ordinary users had many questions about the security of Recall, so the company announced that it would finalize the feature. Later, the release was announced for October, but it was also postponed for further development.
